Huntsman Cancer Foundation Announces Second Annual Ski Day to Conquer Cancer
February 28, 2019—Park City, UT— After a successful inaugural event last spring, which raised $80,000, Huntsman Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce Pink Park City is coming back for its second run. This ski day to conquer cancer will be held at Park City Mountain’s Canyon Village on Saturday, March 23, and 100 percent of the funds raised will benefit vital research for all types of cancer at Huntsman Cancer Institute.
Pink Park City is a celebration of life with a party on and off the slopes for all ages. The all-day event covers Park City Mountain in pink by way of hundreds of skiers in over-the-top costumes, multiple lodge deck parties, giveaways and live music.
“We had tremendous success with Pink Park City last year and we want to carry the momentum into this year’s event,” says cancer survivor Holly Hagerman, who is a co-chair of Pink Park City. “We want to continue to increase our impact by raising $150,000. We would love to see 600 people covered in pink on March 23.”
According to the National Cancer Institute, more than 1.7 million new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States this year. Fundraising – through events like Pink Park City – are essential to Huntsman Cancer Institute’s efforts to advance cancer research and develop safer, less toxic treatments. In the past year, HCI has:
- Used the Utah Population Database to discover two new inherited cancer susceptibility genes for multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer
- Discovered a major pathway responsible for glioma, the most common brain cancer
- Started offering both current FDA-approved CAR-T cell therapies, a new form of immunotherapy. HCI is the first place in the Mountain West to offer these therapies.
“The magic of Huntsman Cancer Institute is that it instills hope,” says Susan Sheehan, President and COO, Huntsman Cancer Foundation, “Hope for an effective treatment. Hope for a durable remission. Hope for one more day spent with loved ones. Participants who join us at events like Pink Park City help provide this magic by funding cancer research that will lead to better, safer treatments and one day an end to cancer.”
Friends, family, and neighbors are invited to come together to participate as a fundraising team, raise funds and ski together in Pink Park City’s Rally for Hope Parade. Participants are encouraged to ask their friends and loved ones to support their fundraising efforts – coming together to support those who experience a cancer diagnosis and funding efforts to find the next, new breakthrough that could change the dynamic of cancer research and care.
“We appreciate the support we have received for this event from the Park City community and all of our sponsors,” says Diane Tanner, co-chair of Pink Park City and cancer survivor. “Our sponsors—Park City Mountain, Diamonds Direct, Waldorf Astoria Park City, Smartwool, The North Face, Canyon Mountain Sports, and RXBAR—really make this event possible and we are extremely thankful for their determination to fight cancer.”
