Registration Opens for The Ultimate Challenge Gran Fondo Ride Hosted by Tour of Utah
New Start in Canyons Village for Ninth Annual Event
SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (May 1, 2018) – Registration opens today for The Ultimate Challenge presented by University of Utah Health, a non-competitive, gran fondo-style bicycle ride hosted by the Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah. Taking place on Saturday, Aug. 11, this will be the ninth edition of The Ultimate Challenge. Early registration ranges from $115-125 and is available online from May 1-31 at www.rideultimatechallenge.com.
This unique cycling event allows individual cyclists and amateur teams to ride the same demanding mountain course that is used for the “Queen Stage” of the professional cycling stage race. For the first time, The Ultimate Challenge will start at Canyons Village at Park City, covering 98 miles to Snowbird Resort. This will be Stage 5 of the Tour of Utah, which has an overall start on Aug. 6 with a prologue in St. George, Utah and will conclude on Aug. 12 with Stage 6 in Park City. Riders in The Ultimate Challenge will begin at 7:30 a.m. MT, a few hours prior to the men’s professional stage race. Details of the course will be unveiled by early June, when the final route for all seven race days for the Tour of Utah will be announced.
New for 2018 will be The Ultimate Challenge Kick-Off Party at Canyons Village on Friday, Aug. 10, 6-8 p.m. This ticketed event is $30 per person and will offer music, a bounty of food, one adult beverage, a celebrity meet and greet, as well as packet pickup. Returning for a unique ride experience will be a timed section along the final ascent of Little Cottonwood Canyon, a reserved seating area near finish line, televisions to watch the live broadcast of the pro race, post-ride meal, select beverages and a finisher pint glass. Riders must enter the base of Little Cottonwood Canyon by 1:30 p.m. in order to have times recorded for the six-mile climb. The road in the canyon is expected to close to all traffic by 2 p.m. for the pro cyclists to complete the stage.

Individuals receive a $15 discount on the $140 entry fee with online registration before June 1. A registration discount of $25 per person is available for teams of eight or more riders. A designated team captain should send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm a roster and receive the discount code. Participants are can select to purchase a newly-designed event jersey with online registration, created by DNA Cycling.

The Larry H. Miller Tour of Utah remains a 2.HC-rated stage race on the UCI America Tour, making it one of the premier events for professional cycling teams in North America.
